NRM's CEC drops Magogo and 5 others as Parliamentary Committee Leaders

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) convened at State House Entebbe to deliberate on the appointment of new chairpersons and deputies for 15 parliamentary sectoral committees. During this session, chaired by President Museveni, several existing chairpersons were replaced with new appointees.

The committees affected include Agriculture, Defence, East African Community Affairs, Education, Environment, Finance, Foreign Affairs, Gender, Health, ICT, Legal Affairs, Presidential Affairs, Public Service, Tourism, and Infrastructure. Notable replacements include Budiope East MP Moses Hashim Magogo and Mbarara South Division MP Mwine Mpaka. Also, Lira District Woman MP Agnes Linda Auma was replaced by Mubende District's Hope Nakazibwe, and Ayivu East Division MP Geofrey Feta took over the Environment Committee from Dr. Emmanuel Otaala.

Sources at the meeting revealed that these changes are part of a strategy to eliminate ineffective members. The government will formally present the list of new appointees soon. The Parliament session scheduled for yesterday was postponed to accommodate this meeting, with an updated agenda set for today.

Attendees at the meeting included prominent NRM officials such as National Vice Chairperson Moses Kigongo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Secretary General Richard Todwong. NRM spokesperson Emmanuel Dombo explained that the appointments followed a 2021 resolution to rotate members after serving two consecutive terms.

President Museveni reiterated his commitment to combating corruption, citing recent arrests of MPs on corruption charges. He also indicated that the discussion on commissioners and service awards would be postponed for thorough deliberation at a future meeting.
