Six die in Rukungiri Bus Accident

Six individuals, including a police constable from Nsangi Police Station in Wakiso District, lost their lives in a road accident on the Ntungamo-Rukungiri highway this morning, according to police reports.

The fatalities occurred when a Rukungiri-bound bus collided with a stationary Toyota Hiace taxi at Kakiika Trading Center, approximately 21km from Ntungamo Town in western Uganda. Among the deceased were PC Brian Agereza, bus driver Robert Arinaitwe, Toyota Hiace owner Urban Kakye, turn man and driver at St John Nursing School John Baptist Banturaki, Rwashamaire Public School watchman Herbert Kwikiriza, and an unidentified man.

The crash involved a Toyota Hiace (UBN 337H) and an Isuzu bus (UAP 385U) from Kasaaba Bus Company. Initial reports suggest the Toyota Hiace, traveling from Rukungiri to Ntungamo, experienced a tire puncture and parked partially on the road to fix it with lights on. The bus, coming from Kampala, veered off the road and struck the parked taxi, killing six people instantly, including the police officer.

Injured individuals, David Musinguzi, Jova Turinawe, and Emmanuel Ngabirano, were taken to Devine Health and Ntungamo Specialist Medical Centres. The deceased were transported to Rwashameire Health Centre IV for autopsy. Vehicle wreckage was towed to Ntungamo Central Police for further investigation.
